In essence Tokyo’s Tenniscoats celebrate all that makes song vital in our collective conscious. Matching emotive live performance against delicately psychedelic folk songs, the duo of Saya and Takashi Ueno (assisted by a plethora of floating members), create some of the most compelling music currently emanating from Japan.

“their most impressive statement so far, a convincing and beguiling melange of whispy folk, hazy psychedelia and murmuring electronics among which deft melodies blossom almost unnoticed” THE WIRE

Joanne Robertson
After a stint as a member of noise band, I Love Lucy, which boasted fans such as Franz Ferdinand, Joanne formed the art collective Blood ‘n Feathers with Lucy Stein which met with critical acclaim including the prestigious Becks Futures show 2006. Now solo and part member of MEMEME, Joanne’s debut album “The Lighter” (Textile Records) has been described as “a collection of intimate interior portraits, reminiscent in spots of Sybille Baier, Barbara Manning, even Hope Sandoval, but all performed with an addictive off-kilter grace that suspends time in a very special way.” Byron Coley .

Laish
Laish’s (Daniel Green) music has been described as a journey into lo-fi experimentalism with an eerie folk angle. Daniel’s music is tinged with melancholy and simplistic yet, effectively beautiful guitar arrangements,  drawing comparisons with British folk star Adem.

Conrad Vingoe
Influenced by classic singer songwriters such as Joni Mitchell and Nick Drake and more recent Americana and folk scene contemporaries like Iron & Wine and Josh Rouse, Conrad’s compositions are fresh and intelligent, with a timeless relevance.

Queering the Pitch brings new alt-sounds to Brighton Fringe

On the 24th & 25th of May, Queering the Pitch will be stampeding its way
onto the Brighton Fringe festival in order to bring you 2 ground breaking
nights of aural stimulation at the Point Pressure Club. Exploding on to
the scene with an electronic showcase on the Saturday and simmering down
with an acoustic line up on the Sunday, QtP aims to provide more amp than
camp at the mere price of 6 pounds per night.

Building on the wildly successful previous efforts in booming musical
hotspots, Manchester and London, QtP is finally bringing its twisted,
baton twirling circus to the world renowned Brighton Fringe Festival in
order to provide an exciting alternative to the boring, stereotypical gay
art affairs.

First up, on Saturday the 24th of May from 7.30 pm onwards, is an
electronic music showcase featuring hot new London posse on the block “We
Have Band” and the infamous singer songwriter, Stuart Flynn, of Dirty
Cakes and Dear Britch fame and Peepholes.

The Acoustic night, taking place on the Sunday from 7.30 pm onwards, will
provide a platform for some of Britain’s best songwriters. Amongst them
are Owen Duff, whose Sufjan like tenor is sure to generate a cult
following, and celebrated Independent Music Award winner Drew Pilgrim.
